The Elder Sister, Bouguereau

Oil on canvas titled "The Elder Sister", painted in 1869 by William-Adolphe Bouguereau.
It depicts a girl of about eight years old, seated by the side of the road, behind her, the mid-height horizon shows a vast valley on a partly cloudy day. With her little sister sleeping in her arms, both dressed in typical French attire of the time. The work has been executed with the mathematical precision and proportionality that characterize William-Adolphe, the children are portrayed in an ideal image, without blemishes or natural imperfections.
The canvas is currently located at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, United States.
